Just a heads-up to anyone out there who might be in the same bind as I was. I scoured the 'net to no avail, and stumbled onto the solution:
Scenario:
- You get Nero 7 Essentials bundled with your dvd writer
- When you try to install it, it says that it's not compatible with Vista and tells you to check www.nero.com for updates
- You can't find any Nero 7 Essentials updates on their site
- You think, even if you could find an update, it's not going to help much because you can't even install - how the <bleep!> are you supposed update!?
Solution:
- Download and install Nero 7 Premium Reloaded
- If you tried to install from your OEM disc, your serial number's been saved on your system. If not, then, as the install instructions say, you can just put your OEM disc in and the installer'll go find it.
- The installer sees what serial you've got and correctly installs the 'Essentials' version
Not even the tech support person I online-chatted with at LiteOn (the DVD writer manufacturer) would clue me into that one. Hope this saves someone else some of the time I wasted on a product I'll probably end up never using....
